Does your child need help with their homework? Do they want to learn more about a subject such as animals, state capitals or famous people in history? Would they like to read a story? Or play a game that will help them learn? Children can do all of this and a lot more with the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL). All they need is a computer, smartphone or other device with an Internet connection. Visit the TEL website. The service is free and can be used at any time, any day.
TEL has more than 400,000 resources for children and teens, from magazines, e-books and encyclopedias to videos, podcasts and test preparation materials. Children can learn more about math, science, geography, state history and the arts. They can also look up a fact about Tennessee for a paper or read a mystery story. Think of it as a playground for their brain.
Here are just a few of the resources they’ll have fun exploring:
Use a real encyclopedia at home for free. Students can find pictures, maps and even science projects!
Kids can find great read-aloud stories, games and singalongs. They can learn fun facts about things such as plants, weather and dinosaurs. There are even activities they can print and do anytime.
Get help with math and reading, starting at the fourth-grade level, with online courses. Create your own free account to get started.
Students can find magazine articles and reference books that are age-appropriate and easy to use. Designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
FOR OLDER KIDS
The site has endless material for teens to explore, too. Through TEL, the World Book Encyclopedia can be used even when the library is closed. And there are resources that can help teens as they research family history, do their homework, learn a foreign language or prepare to take the ACT.
