The Memphis Child Advocacy Center confronts child sexual abuse through prevention and a team response to reported abuse. The Memphis CAC prevention team offers Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention and response training to parents, professionals and volunteers at community settings across Shelby County. They also facilitate child protection policy workshops with youth-serving organizations. The intervention team provides forensic interviewing, advocacy, and therapy to children after reported abuse. It is part of the Shelby County Child Protection Investigation Team (CPIT). CPIT is 15 agencies strong and is headquartered at the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

Eligibility Requirements

Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention and response training is available to any organization in Shelby County. It is geared for adults, especially parents, professionals, and volunteers who work with kids. The Memphis CAC provides the training at community settings including youth-serving organizations, healthcare facilities, schools, and faith-based organizations. There is a small workbook fee with some scholarships available. There are also bi-monthly free open enrollment training sessions available. Our intervention team provides services to children and their family following a report of child sexual or other severe abuse. Referrals for forensic interviews, advocacy services, and therapy are made after abuse has been reported to either the Tennessee Department of Children's Services or law enforcement.
