Overview
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville offers the Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker (MIHOW) Program, a peer mentoring initiative aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged and geographically isolated communities. This program is dedicated to enhancing health and child development for pregnant women and families with children aged 0-3.
The MIHOW Program is a partnership between Vanderbilt University and various community-based organizations. Through monthly home visits and parenting groups, MIHOW strives to promote healthy pregnancies, nurture healthy children, and build strong emotional connections between parents and their children. By combining academic expertise with community resources, the program provides comprehensive support to families in need.
Beyond its primary services, the MIHOW Program often leads to the creation of additional community resources. These may include tutoring and literacy programs, daycare centers, food and clothing pantries, health clinics, family planning services, economic development projects, job training, and links to federal assistance programs. Through these efforts, MIHOW not only improves child health and development but also fosters overall community growth and individual empowerment.

Eligibility Requirements
