The Tennessee Department of Health is proud to announce a new digital platform for the Welcome Baby program, which provides important information and resources to families with newborns.
Started in 2013, the program mailed Welcome Baby books to new parents across Tennessee. However, the program faced challenges in making sure the information was always up-to-date and accessible from anywhere.
In 2023, a Welcome Baby section was added to the MyTN app. This digital platform provides the latest information on pregnancy, birth, infants and toddlers. Helpful features like clickable phone numbers and website links make it even easier for parents and caregivers to find information about community services and resources, anytime, from their smart phone or tablet. Additional content and features will be added in 2025 to make sure the Welcome Baby program continues to meet the needs of all Tennessee families.
“The new electronic format ensures timely access to newborn health information, including safe sleep, immunization, and developmental milestones. Additionally, through housing Welcome Baby within the MyTN app, the reach of this important health information extends not only to parents of newborns but to family members and caretakers, as well.” Elizabeth Harvey, PhD, MPH, Assistant Commissioner for Family Health and Wellness.
Users can download the MyTN app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once in the app, users can find the Welcome Baby section by using the search function or visiting the Children & Families category.
