Helping Tennessee Kids Love Reading with the Governors Early Literacy Foundation

Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn. It opens doors to imagination, knowledge, and future success. That's why the Governor's Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) works every day to bring the joy of books to Tennessee families.

Through its programs, GELF helps children build strong reading habits early in life. Here’s how they are making a difference:

GELF’s mission is simple: to strengthen early literacy in Tennessee. They believe every child deserves access to the resources and support they need to succeed. Their work goes beyond books. By reaching 183,000 caregivers with helpful tips and connecting over 130 organizations through their SELECT program, GELF ensures that families, schools, and communities have the tools to create lifelong learners.

To make reading even easier, GELF launched Booker’s Treehouse, an online resource for families. At bookerstreehouse.org, parents and caregivers can find fun activities, tips, and guidance to help their children fall in love with reading.

Families can take simple steps to support literacy at home:

By making reading a priority, families can give their children the gift of a bright future. To learn more about GELF and how they're creating a love of reading, visit governorsfoundation.org.
