Tennessee Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped (TLBPH)
Free public library service for any Tennessean (any age) who has a disability which prevents them from reading standard print. The same types of books and magazines that are available from a public library are loaned to people's homes in audio, braille and large print formats through the U.S. Postal Service via the "free matter" mailing privilege, so there is no charge to the user. Players are loaned for use with the audio books and magazines. Audio and braille materials may also be downloaded and played on iPhones & iPads. For more information and/or for an application for service, call (800) 342-3308 or visit the library's website at: http://sos.tn.gov/tsla/lbph
Must have a physical disability which makes it difficult for the individual to read standard print. Qualifying disabilities include: blindness, low vision, manual dexterity problems which make it difficult to hold a book and/or turn pages, or reading disabilities. Application for service must be signed by a health care or social work professional, who is not a member of the applicant's family, certifying the applicant has a qualifying disability.
