Mental Health 101
"Mental Health 101" is a school-based outreach program that serves thousands of middle and high school students annually. The primary focus of Mental Health 101 is to teach students to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicidal behaviors in themselves, peers, and family, the duration of symptoms requiring their immediate intervention, and encourages them to seek help from trusted adults. In the 2014-2015 School Year, Mental Health 101 reached 83 schools from 23 counties across Tennessee.
Mental Health 101 is offered in public or private middle and high school health and wellness classes. To schedule, the health teacher, wellness teacher, principal, or other school contact person can call or e-mail the Mental Health Association of East Tennessee (MHAET). Mental Health 101 is a free service and MHAET will work with the teacher to determine the best time for the class.
