Read to be Ready: Building Thinkers in Tennessee

Tennessee, like many other states, has struggled with preparing its students to be lifelong readers and critical thinkers. By the end of third grade, less than half of students in Tennessee are proficient in reading. Once a student falls behind, it becomes even harder for them to catch up.

With the goal of improving literacy and critical thinking skills across our state, the Tennessee Department of Education recently launched the Read to be Ready campaign. Discover how communities are working together to build readers and thinkers in Tennessee - even before a child enters kindergarten!

While in-school instruction is critical, we each need to do our part to improve literacy in Tennessee. Fortunately, there are simple steps our families, businesses and communities can take to ensure our students are ready for their future.
